Emotional Support Animals are reccommended by a licensed therapist. Once you receive your ESA letter you can choose the animal of your choice. Remember, Support animals do not have the same public access as Service animals.
Animal Assisted Therapy is a series of short or long term sessions with a measurable goal. Sessions can be at any location. Goals are established by health care professionals and the client. There is no client ownership of therapy animals.
Service Animals are specifically trained to provide services that their owners can not accomplish on their own. The commitment is life long. Training is on going. Regulations are established under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Animal Assisted Education is the foundation for all support, therapy and service applications. From federal, state and local legislative issues to up to date information for the general public, well trained animals play a key role in showing their abilities as animal ambassadors.
What is best for you? Talk to your health care providers to discuss what is going to meet your needs. All animals are not created equal. Each have unique qualities from companionship to emergency intervention. Ultimately you will decide what animal you will want to develop a special connection with.
